BreatheWell Pulmonary Program
At Saint Francis Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, we understand the unique needs of patients living with chronic and acute respiratory conditions. Our BreatheWell Pulmonary Program delivers comprehensive, clinically guided care designed to promote better breathing, improved endurance, and a safe, confident return to daily life.
A Comprehensive Approach to Pulmonary Rehab
Our program is supported by a rounding pulmonologist from UMass Memorial Medical Group, an on-site respiratory therapist, and a therapy team trained in pulmonary recovery techniques. Together, we deliver a personalized plan of care for patients with diagnoses such as:
Chronic Bronchitis
Post-COVID recovery
COPD
Emphysema
Pulmonary Fibrosis and Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD)
Asthma
Bronchiectasis
Acute Respiratory Failure
Recurrent or Chronic Pneumonia
Empyema
Other complex pulmonary conditions
Treatment may include:
Oxygen therapy and monitoring
Nebulizer and inhaler administration
Breathing retraining (pursed-lip and diaphragmatic breathing)
Respiratory therapy and education
Pulmonary-specific physical and occupational therapy
Use of OmniFlow® biofeedback technology
The O2 Lounge: A Space to Breathe and Recover
As part of our BreatheWell program, patients are invited to participate in complementary therapies held in our dedicated O2 Lounge—a calming, supportive space designed to enhance the healing experience through daily engagement.
Our weekly menu of offerings includes:
Gentle Chair Yoga
Guided Meditation & Breathing Practice
“Breath & Movement” Therapy Sessions (pulmonary-focused exercise and breathing)
Weekly Respiratory Therapist Education
Therapy-led education on energy conservation, safe discharge planning, and home safety
These offerings are optional, individualized, and tailored to support each patient’s respiratory recovery and overall wellness.
